LET’S REVIVE THE LOST HISTORY

Quran

“For around three centuries, Arabic language has been a compulsory study in European educational institutions.”

While reading this line in a column written by Mr. Orya Maqbool Jaan in an Urdu News Paper, I was pleasantly surprised. I found my mind surrounded by numerous questions: How did the world so change in it’s entirety like that? Today if we heard of such golden time of Islam, Muslims and Arabic language, why does it seem like a dream or fiction? why do our ears not believe what they heard was a truth some day? How did this dramatic change occur? How did this time come when first words taught to us after coming into this world are in English: Mummy/Mama and Daddy/Papa?

Actually these are not the questions but some bitter facts which we always avoid thinking about because of their intense bitterness. Today we are so much overwhelmed with the influence of the West that we think if there is any civilization, this is West. If there is a nation to follow, this is the West. If there is anything to buy from market, this is imported from there. If there is a place to work, it’s West. If there is a place for ideal education, this is Western universities. Actually it would be unfair to deny the reality that the West deserve to be followed by the rest of the world. By following universal rules of success: Honesty is the best policy, dignity is in hard work and impossibility does not exist, they have captured the position to lead the world. They have made discoveries for rest of the world in form of technologies for advancement, medicines for lives, industries for businesses and quality products and services, arms for defense, learning institutions with qualified people and so on. Here arises one more significant question: Is today’s world with Western leadership better than what it was during Muslim Leaderships, even if we compare world crime rates and economic disparities?

The darker side of blindly following the West is the fact that If we depend on others for everything, we are inevitably influenced and impressed with their values, culture and civilization as well. They have established their business and industry (i.e, Multinationals) all over the world where their values, culture and civilization prevail in the name of ‘Corporate Culture’. An example of promotion of Western culture can also be seen on what stuff is being telecasted on Our media. Unfortunately this has resulted in loss of our own identity and memories of golden history. We have stopped thinking and started to depend on others to think. There is another undeniable reality exists that Islamic model of life, business and education is the best as the same has been proven from the golden history of Islam and Muslims. Even if today implemented sincerely with its true spirit, it will not only give those benefits and blessings offered by the prevailing Western model, but it will also eliminate the demerits of the Western one: like interest based economy promoting capitalism resulting into widening gap between the Rich and the Poor is a drastic feature of today’s world, inappropriate marketing practices where customer is the king and where good and services are produced considering the customers’ demands regardless of what is actually good or bad and Halal or Haram has also severe consequences for global society. Once Islamic model is implemented, it will be a blessing for the society as a whole, justice will be cheaper and the state will become a peaceful place with fully content lives.

I am writing all these lines with the request to all to please study the golden history of Islam and analyze what is missing in muslims of today which does not let our system to produce scientists like RAZI to the world who was the first person to produce a comprehensive Encyclopedia which became a ground for education of medicines in the later times. Why can’t we give Ibn-e-Sina and Al-Farabi like scholars to the world? We need to learn the reasons why true implementation of Islam is the rightest solution for all the curses and disparities confronted by the Today’s world. And the study should aim to rediscover what contribution can we make, both individually and collectively, to regain the lost world with justice and contentment for all.

True that! the West has adopted our culture and values which we have unfortunately forgotten causing the current economic and other disasters in the Muslim world. Islam is not only about worshiping, it is a complete guide on how to live in this world, be it education, discoveries, health and culture etc. Islam does not restrain us from research and obtaining technologies. Today It is very unfortunately said that the one who follow Islam, will not be able to compete in the modern world.

Very true and appreciable thoughts my dear………….In my opinion the problem is not that now we (muslims) doesn’t have good brains, infact we still have great engineers, doctors, scientists, intellectuals, etc. but MOST of them are flourishing in the westeren world just bcoz of an environment of equality, fair play and justice there, which unfortunately is now a dream in most part of the Muslim world. There is only one solution to regain the lost world is to build a society on the golden principles of Quran & Sunnah, where Islam wouldn’t be confined in some rituals but should be reflected in each and every aspect of individual, social and political spheres of our lives.

  6. Shaayan, you have touched a great topic..I believe the reason for Muslim downfall lies in our deviation from the Holy Book as you have rightly placed a the picture of the quranic verse ‘Hold fast unto the rope of Allah’ ..we have to practice steadfastness in our ranks.. today the non muslim is successful because they are truly respecting and guarding their values

As far as Arabi language is concerned which was mandatory in European countries, it was because that Muslim scientists wrote all the books in Arabi that time n European has to study them but i always say one thing about Muslim Golden Period that although all muslim scientist were very good in medical and astronomy but they were very weak in their modren weaponry ststem and development of weapons and specially the development of gun powder, pistol or a gun.. I remember the statement of one Israeli old politician lady… She said that although Israel is a very small country but produces 50% of scientist of the world alone and number one in modren arms weapon & we learned this from Prophet Muhammad.. As Muhammad PBUH does not had anything to eat in his home but had 3 swords hanging in his room at the time of his death… How europe developed now? Chinese invented gun powder n European utilised it wisely they made guns, pistol n bullets and developed their weapons rather than developing medicine.. They conqured all muslims countries through guns n then they started developing.. Before that Europe ws in dark..So i think whatever we r now its because of weak muslim defence system.. We are surviving just because of our nukes otherwise we could hav face situation like Iraq n Afghanistan..
